Stud Beef Victoria Cattle Handlers Camp

Stud Beef Victoria Cattle Handlers Camp

The Stud Beef Victoria Cattle Handlers Camp was held at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds in Flemington from Monday the 10th of July to Thursday the 13th of July, 2017. There was a record amount of participants at 165 and over 160 head of cattle of which 100 were ballot animals.

Over the couple of days we learnt new grooming techniques, animal husbandry, ring craft, judging, artificial insemination and we were also able to listen to a couple of successful show people and how they have achieved what they have. The Red Poll Society sponsored the Champion Senior Parader which was fantastic to see, this was won by Peter Ferrari. A big thank you needs to go to the Red Cactus Red Poll Stud and the Redward Red Poll Stud for supplying ballot animals. Red Cactus Seah was led by Cassy Wilsmore. Redward Tess was led by Ethan Stuart. Ethan was also the winner of a swag in the raffle. Turanga Maree Ann was led by Annalise Abbott. Annalise did a great job and had a fantastic time as she placed 1st in her handling class.

Turanga Rose Petal was led by myself. I was placed 2nd in the open age junior judging competition. Turanga Erica was also supplied. The line up of Red Poll animals that were represented were exceptional and it was great to see the breed been shown by high quality animals. D. Johnson and R. Draper spent long hours cleaning up after the Camp on the following Friday and Saturday.

The RASV was very helpful, providing Sponsorship of $5000. Jess Parker won the Scholarship of a 2 week training trip to the USA sponsored by Sullivan’s Stock Products, RASV and Daryl Holder (The Cattle Shop). This is my fifth year attending the camp and I continue to learn and enjoy it. There are always new activities to do and new people to meet. We are all looking forward to the 2018 camp!
